Bérengère is a Senior Program Officer, Health and Population Programs, and is responsible for managing and providing technical services to population and health care projects.   Her main responsibilities include the following:   (1) serve as Director of the Johns Hopkins University/ Population Communication Services (PCS) Project at the Academy, and as a lead communication and social marketing trainer for several courses in Africa, South America, Europe and the U.S.; (2) serve as a trainer in interpersonal communication and counseling, conduct qualitative research on interpersonal communication norms; and  (3) provide technical assistance in Information Education Communication (IEC) and training to a full range of AED's Health and Population Programs with USAID and multilateral support.  

OTHER EXPERIENCE

Project Director for Cameroon based Primary Health Care (PHC) project, Academy for Educational Development , Washington, DC (1991-1993). (Prime contractor, Harvard Institute for International Development).   Provided technical assistance and management support in IEC and community based Primary Health Care.  

Health Education/ Information-Education-Communication(IEC) Specialist, World Health Organization, Global Program on AIDS, (WHO/GPA), (1987-1990) .  Part of a multi-person team, responsible for (1) conducting appraisal of National AIDS Programs; (2) planning programs in health promotion, social mobilization, IEC and social marketing for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)/AIDS activities, (3) preparing short-term and medium-term plans of action and budgeting of these activities; (4) planning and conducting pre-review and evaluation of National AIDS Programs, research survey preparation and interpretation. Experience in more than 10 African countries and Asia.  

Graduate Research Assistant ,Center for International Education (CIE), University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts, (1985-1986).   Principal researcher on Public Health:conducted study on project managers' opinions on community participation and methods of evaluation. Conducted evaluation of several Primary Health Care projects involving community participation, United National Organizations, Geneva, Switzerland. 

Teaching Assistant, Home Economics Department, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts, (1982-1985).  Assisted Training sessions in interpersonal communication techniques; responsible for producing video of counseling encounters.

Administrative and Operations Officer,USAID Agricultural Development Project in Morocco, College of Agriculture, University of Minnesota, St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota, (1976-1978).  Coordinated all academic activities in training sessions of Moroccan students involved in the program.   Responsible for the administration and reporting to USAID. 

Principal Assistant and Translator, "Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (CGT)",Tegucigalpa, Honduras, (1972-1974).   Assisted President of CGT in managing and budgeting all shipments made between Central America and Europe.  

Member of the Health Emergency Team,Honduran Army,Managua, Nicaragua, (Dec. 1972).  Emergency disaster relief after the earthquake in Managua, obstetrics division.

Co-trained  the Social Communication Course (Cours International de Commumnication Sociale -CICS), in qualitative research methods such as focus groups, in depth interveiws interpersonal communication (IPC), Message development, and planning communication strategies.  

CERES,Liège, Belgium (October 1996).   Co-trained the International Training of Trainers Curriculum Development Course.  

The World Bank, Luanda, Angola (June 1995).  Trained on a group of experts from non-governmental and governmental organizations, on qualitative research methods for water and sanatation.  

Triangle Research Institute , Port au Prince, Haiti   (April 1995).   Facilitated a training of   trainers in qualitative research (focus group) for the Haitian Educational Plan, Port au Prince.  

Family Health International (FHI), AIDSTECH, Casablanca, Morocco(July 1991).   Technical assistance provided in the planning of a peer educators project among sex workers.  

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Conakry, Guinea (April/May 1991).  Five-person team leader for a Population Program Review and Strategy Development.  

UNICEF, Mauritatnia (November/December 1990).   Member of a four-person team, responsible for Social Mobilization/Health Education in the Evaluation of Expanded Program on Immunization.  

FHI/AIDSTECH, Mali (September 1990).  Technical assistance provided in the elaboration of STDs/AIDS educational materials targeting prostitutes and clients.
